College:
The Lions selected Sims with their first-round pick (9th overall). Sims’ speed and intensity will add a spark to the Lions’ young, talented linebacker corps as he is expected to compete at the weakside linebacker position. He was regarded as Florida State’s finest linebacker since Buccaneers’ linebacker Derrick Brooks (1991-94). In 38 games for the Seminoles, Sims started his final 24 and finished his career with 200 tackles (95 solo), seven sacks (61 yards) and 21 tackles-for-loss.

2008:
• Named a 2008 defensive team captain for the second consecutive year.
• Second on team with 140 (90 solo) tackles on the season.
• Posted nine tackles (seven solo, including one tackle for loss) at Atlanta (9/7).
• Recorded seven tackles (four solo) vs. Green Bay (9/14).
• Had a team-leading 14 tackles (11 solo) at San Francisco (9/21).
• Led team with 12 tackles (nine solo) vs. Chicago (10/5).
• Split a sack with DT Cory Redding and recorded nine tackles (five solo) at Minnesota (10/12).
 
2007:
• Named a 2007 defensive team captain. Set a furious pace to lead the team with 172 tackles (114 solo) based on coaches film, the fourth most by a Lions defender in a single season in team history. Ranked foruth in the NFL (press box stats) with 134 tackles.
• Starting at weakside linebacker at Oakland (9/9), Sims posted a career-high 16 tackles (11 solo).
• Posted 10 tackles (six solo) against Minnesota (9/16).
• Made 10 tackles (10 solo) at Philadelphia (9/23).
• Had an impressive game against Chicago (9/30), registering 11 tackles (five solo), his first career interception (five yards), a pass defensed and a forced fumble.
• Sims had yet another double-digit tackle game, recording 11 tackles (seven solo) at Washington (10/7).
• Continuing his furious pace, Sims posted 15 tackles (11 solo) against Tampa Bay (10/21).
• At Chicago (10/28), posted seven tackles (six solo).
• Made 10 tackles (six solo) and recorded one sack against Denver (11/4).
• Posted 10 tackles (eight solo), including one tackle for loss, caused a fumble and had a pass defensed at Arizona (11/11).

2006:
• Sims currently is third among NFL rookies in tackles, and is also tied for ninth in the NFL (tied for third in the NFC) amongst all defenders with 100 tackles (65 solo) according to press box stats.
• Currently leads the team with 114 tackles (72 solo), according to coaches film review. He has recorded at least 10 tackles in seven of his first 12 games in his career.
• In his first career start as a pro, the Lions 2006 number one pick tied for a game-high 10 tackles (8 solo) along with one tackle for loss against the Seahawks (9/10). The 10 tackles that LB Ernie Sims registered against Seattle were the most by a Lions rookie in an opening day start since S Bennie Blades (1988-1996) recorded 12 tackles in his professional debut against the Atlanta Falcons (9/4/88) and were the most by a Lions’ rookie linebacker to start opening day since LB Dennis Gibson’s (1987-1993) 11 tackles made in his opening start as a Lions pro against Minnesota (9/13/87).
• Led the team in tackles at Chicago (9/17) with 10 tackles (six solo).
• For the third straight game, Sims led the team with a season-high 13 tackles (four solo) along with two special teams tackles against Green Bay (9/24).
• At St. Louis (10/1), Sims had 11 tackles (10 solo) t o lead the team for the fourth consecutive week.
• Posted his fifth-straight double-digit tackle game with 10 (four solo) and forced a fumble at Minnesota (10/8)
• Had seven tackles (three solo) against Buffalo (10/15).
• Tied his season-best 13 tackles (nine solo) to once again lead the team in tackles at the New York Jets (10/22).
• Collected his first fumble recovery of his career off of Atlanta QB Michael Vick (11/5) and also led the defense with nine tackles (eight solo).
• Recorded 11 tackles (five solo) vs. San Francisco (11/12).
• Captured his first sack of his career, a 0.5 sack of Dolphins QB Joey Harrington for a loss of two yards vs. Miami (11/23), while also making nine tackles (seven solo) against the Dolphins.
• Had seven tackles (four solo) at New England (12/3).
 
2005:
• Started all year at strong-side outside linebacker and finished fourth on the team with 72 tackles (22 solos).
• Registered 2.5 sacks (23 yards), 10 tackles for losses of 36 yards, recovered a fumble, deflected four passes and had two interceptions.
• Helped lead a unit that ranked 14th in the nation in total defense (309.23 ypg) and 18th in rush defense (108.38 ypg).
• All-Atlantic Coast Conference honorable mention.

2004:
• Played in 12 games, starting the final 11 at strong-side linebacker and finished second on the team with a career-high 86 tackles (41 solos). Also had 4.5 sacks (38 yards), nine tackles for loss (43 yards), five pass defenses and a blocked kick.
• Helped the team rank third in the nation in rush defense (83.03 ypg), fourth in scoring defense (14.08 ppg) and seventh in total defense (283.83 ypg).
• Named ACC Defensive Back of the Week in back-to-back games (vs. Virginia and Wake Forest).
• ESPN All-American first-team choice and All-Atlantic Coast Conference second-team pick.

2003:
• Played in every game as a reserve linebacker.
• Recorded 42 tackles (32 solos) with two tackles for loss (5 yards) and three pressures; also deflected two passes and caused a fumble.

High School:
• At North Florida Christian (Tallahassee, Fla.) High School, Sims was rated the nation's best prep prospect in 2003.
• Earned All-American honors by Parade as the top prep linebacker in the nation and USA Today All-USA second-team accolades.
• Named to the top 100 in the state of Florida by the Orlando Sentinel, was a member of the Super 75 team as selected by the Florida Times Union, chosen as the best player in the south and to the All-South Top 20 by the Tampa Tribune.
• Earned five varsity letters at NFC, as he earned varsity spot in eighth grade.
• Led the Eagles to four state championships (1998-2001) during his five-year career and as a senior rushed for three touchdowns in the Class A state championship game.
• An incredible two-way player, he totaled 133 tackles (73 solos), 15 stops for lost yardage, six forced fumbles, seven fumble recoveries and one blocked field goal attempt from his linebacker position, and ran for 1,081 yards on 115 carries for 23 touchdowns as a running back during his senior season.
• Recorded 180 tackles, 41 stops for losses, 12 sacks and forced seven fumbles as a linebacker and rushed for over 600 yards and 17 touchdowns as a running back during his junior season.
